At the northern end of N.C. Highway 12, North Beach Access marks the transition from paved Corolla to the 4×4 beaches leading into Carova. This is a vehicle ramp rather than a traditional pedestrian beach access. There is no public parking lot, bathhouse, restroom, or shower facility at the ramp, and only four-wheel-drive vehicles should attempt to enter the beach. The ramp is open for vehicle access year-round, although conditions can change with tides, weather and erosion. Drivers should air down their tires before entering the sand and follow all posted Currituck County beach-driving regulations. A beach parking permit is required to park on the 4×4 beach during the designated permit season.
